Mr. Pérez Díaz joined the Firm’s litigation practice in 1993 as a Partner, after eight years in several positions in the Government of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, including Attorney General and Solicitor General.  He represents clients in a wide variety of commercial litigation cases.  Mr. Pérez Díaz is actively involved in several civic and professional organizations in Puerto Rico.  He is President of the Appeals Commission of the Puerto Rico Anti-Doping Commission, is a member of the Advisory Board of the Puerto Rico Conservation Trust and a member of the Board of Directors of the Puerto Rico Baseball Academy and High School.  In addition, the Supreme Court of Puerto Rico appointed Jorge President of the Accreditation Committee of the Eugenio María de Hostos Law School.

  • Copyright Enforcement Litigation: Mr. Pérez Díaz has represented the trade group organizations Business Software Alliance and the Association of American Publishers, as well as several of their member companies such as Microsoft Corp., Symantec Corp., Autodesk, Inc., Adobe Systems, Inc., McGraw Hill, Inc., John Wiley & Sons, Inc. and Benjamin Cummings, Inc., in numerous actions against infringers of their copyrights.  These engagements have included, not only litigating the cases from beginning to end, but also coordinating the investigation of the cases and assisting the United States Marshals in conducting the searches and seizures authorized by the Court.  In addition, on behalf of the BSA, Mr. Pérez has given numerous speeches on copyrights of computer software programs and has provided trainings to law enforcement officers in Jamaica, Dominican Republic and Trinidad & Tobago on how to carry out searches and seizures in infringers’ premises.
  • Health Related Litigation: Mr. Pérez Díaz has represented health insurance companies as well as hospitals and other health care providers in a variety of cases, ranging from contractual disputes to medical malpractice cases.  His participation in numerous matters related to the Puerto Rico Health Reform has given him a particular expertise on this program.
  • Constitutional Law Issues: Mr. Pérez Díaz’ experiences as Solicitor General and Attorney General for the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, have been particularly useful in advising clients in potential constitutional law controversies and in handling matters which center around constitutional law challenges.  For instance, he successfully represented CC1 Beer Distributors in defending the constitutionality of the law which establishes the excise tax rates applicable to beer in Puerto Rico.  On a motion to dismiss the Court ruled that the law was valid and dismissed the case.  This decision was affirmed by the Court of Appeals and by the Supreme Court of Puerto Rico (2007 TSPR 92, cert. denied, ___ U.S. ___, 2008 WL 695639).
